IT product portfolio management can be such an enormous <strong>relief<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-bamac-dark-beige-color has-text-color\" id=\"h-it-product-portfolio-management-can-be-decisive-for-success\">IT product portfolio management can  <br>be decisive for success<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Within IT portfolio management, <strong>IT product portfolio management<\/strong> focuses on <strong>application systems<\/strong> and products. This article explains what the decisive success factor of IT product portfolio management is.<strong> <\/strong>The company is aware of what the system is, what questions it answers and what concrete advantages companies can gain from implementing it.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-bamac-gold-color has-text-color\" id=\"h-the-reality\">The reality<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is regularly observed that decisions have to be made about budgets and investments in the IT sector, but that these decisions are not based on all the available <strong>key figures<\/strong>. If the IT product portfolio is to be up to <strong>date<\/strong> and also cover the topics of <strong>digitalization<\/strong> and <strong>automation<\/strong>, it becomes clear that an extended basis for decision-making is necessary if companies want to remain <strong>competitive<\/strong>. After all, the use of IT also serves to increase the value of the company. As fundamental as this is, it has unfortunately been observed time and again that this fact is regularly neglected in reality.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But what does such a basis for decision-making look like, one that enables <strong>decisions<\/strong> to be made <strong>more objectively<\/strong>, <strong>quickly<\/strong> and <strong>soundly<\/strong>?  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-bamac-dark-beige-color has-text-color\" id=\"h-better-decisions-through-it-product-portfolio-management\">Better decisions through  <br>IT product portfolio management<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is exactly what well thought-out <strong>IT product portfolio management<\/strong> can achieve. This is where IT products and their economic relevance are <strong>evaluated<\/strong> and their use and replacement <strong>planned<\/strong> and <strong>managed<\/strong>. Questions such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Which systems block, supplement and\/or replace others?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What is the relationship between the costs and benefits of IT products?  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How are the costs of the product for Change and Run developing?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What options are there for optimizing product costs in terms of change and run?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Should the application be further developed or replaced?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">IT product portfolio management answers all these questions and more, making it a <strong>decisive success factor<\/strong> when implemented in a well thought-out and sustainable manner. This is because IT product portfolio management plans, controls and optimizes a company&#8217;s portfolio of IT applications. It <strong>coordinates<\/strong> the tasks that are necessary to achieve the desired increase in value. As a result, it <strong>acts as a bridge<\/strong> between strategic and operational planning and supports faster and, above all, better decision-making to enable the <strong>highest added value<\/strong> for companies.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It does not matter which types of IT products are used in a company, IT product portfolio management covers them all. A distinction is made between purchased and self-developed software, as well as their hybrid forms, in which purchased software is extended by self-developed components.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-bamac-gold-color has-text-color\" id=\"h-types-of-it-products\">Types of IT products<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li> <strong>Purchased software products<\/strong> &#8211; if this product is offered on the market, we speak of standard software (e.g. SAP ERP).  <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"2\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>In-house developments<\/strong> &#8211; a complete system is created from the results of IT projects as part of in-house development (e.g. OS Plus core banking system).  <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Mixture <\/strong>(hybrid)<strong> of purchased software and in-house development<\/strong> (e.g. YOURDOCeS accounts payable accounting is made up of components developed in-house and SAP FI\/CO).  <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-bamac-dark-beige-color has-text-color\" id=\"h-procedure\">Procedure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ITProdPM proceeds as follows.
